Mushrooms
in China
China has
now become a giant producer of cultivated edible mushrooms.
China's mushroom production increased to 586,000 tons
in 1986 from 60,000 metric tons in 1978. Since then,
the Chinese mushroom industry has recorded breath taking
production increases- 1 million tons 4 years later,
2.64 million tons in another 4 year period, 3.41 million
tons in 1997, and 3.98 million tons in 1998. Behind
the explosive production increases must be growing living
standard-driven demands for mushrooms and the industry's
competitive edge in production.
China's canned mushroom(Agaricus bisporus) production
grows speedily as well. There are over 50 canneries
producing canned mushrooms, mainly in Fujian, Shandong,
Jiangsu, An'hui, Sichuan, Zhejiang provinces etc. The
goods are exported all over the world to Eu, Japan,
Canada, the USA etc. Though these years export to the
USA is hindered by the anti-dumping policy, China is
till one of the largest exporter of canned mushrooms
in the world.
